For me, sculpture is the greatest expression of the gestures and movement of the human and animal form. It allows for my story to be told, a moment to be eternally captured, and eternalized in 3-dimensional bronze.
In the process of creating, I initially utilize clay to create the form and draw Inspiration from my memories, and my heritage of 3 generations of ranchers. My figurative work moves beyond western to further express the depth of the gestures and emotions of being human.
Jerry Vaughn was born in Arizona. His heritage is steeped in the western life, ranching, and rodeo. Three generations of ranchers spanning, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Participating in the junior rodeo, in Phoenix and Oklahoma, was a family affair and Vaughn spent many happy hours in the arena. As an adult, Jerry was an active team roper. This lifestyle has had a significant influence on his art.
Vaughn works to captures the spirit of his subjects from his years on the ranch. The movement of the horse, the bucking bull, the roping cowboy and cowgirl, all come to life in his imagination and translate to allow the viewer to connect and identify with his sculptures.
